Hinchcliff Family Preserve—town of Spafford, Onondaga County
Please RSVP with Nature Preserve Manager Jason Gorman by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 607-275-9487.
The Hinchcliff Family Preserve is the centerpiece of FLLT’s Skaneateles Highlands Focus Area. Earlier this summer, volunteers and FLLT staff began a trail stabilization project at the preserve. Please join us to continue finalizing a trail reroute, side-hilling, clearing water bars, refreshing trail blazes, and other trail maintenance activities. Tools and work gloves will be provided.
Please note the following:
- The trail contains stretches that are steep and strenuous. There is about a 300’ difference in elevation from the trailhead to the main trail stabilization site. There are less strenuous activities, such as cutting back brush and brambles, but please be forewarned that this work will be on uneven terrain.
- Sturdy hiking boots or shoes are required. We will be using mattocks and other heavy-duty trail tools.
The Hinchcliff Family Preserve lies at the end of Covey Road off Route 41 in Spafford, Onondaga County. From Skaneateles, take Route 41 south for 14 miles, then turn right onto Covey Road. The preserve’s parking lot lies at the end of the road. From Ithaca or Cortland, take Route 13 north to Route 281 north, then take a left onto Route 41 north in Homer. Stay on Route 41 north for about 11 miles, then take a left onto Covey Road to the preserve.
