Steege Hill Nature Preserve—town of Big Flats
Registration is required and this trip is limited to 20 people. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to register.
Nature Preserve Manager Jason Gorman will lead participants on a moderate 2.5/3-mile hike on the yellow trail through the Finger Lakes Land Trust’s 793-acre Steege Hill Nature Preserve. Jason will discuss the history of the preserve and the Land Trust’s role in acquiring it as well as its flora and fauna. The hike should last about two hours. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes and bring binoculars if you have them.
Meet at the preserve parking lot. From Route 17/86 in Big Flats, take Exit 49. At the end of the exit ramp turn south onto Bridge Street. At the T intersection, turn right onto Olcott Road South. At the next T intersection turn right onto Route 352. Turn left onto South Corning Road, cross the river, and turn left on Steege Hill Road. Go about 1.5 miles on Steege Hill Road and turn left into the parking lot, shortly after going around a steep “S” turn.
Except in the case of extreme weather, walks go rain or shine. Please check our Facebook page or this web page for updates.
If you are unvaccinated, please wear a mask at all times.
Please refrain from bringing dogs as they may impede the observation of wildlife.
