Goal
$60,000
The Finger Lakes Land Trust (FLLT) has negotiated a contract to purchase 300 feet of Canandaigua Lake shoreline as an addition to the Great Hill Nature Preserve. The acquisition will ensure the future of lakeshore that is used by migratory waterfowl, Bald Eagles, and the occasional fisherman looking for a quiet spot on Canandaigua Lake.
To cover the purchase price and associated transaction costs, the Land Trust must raise $60,000. Fortunately, a generous anonymous donor has pledged to cover half of this goal provided that their gift is matched on a dollar-for-dollar basis. You can advance the campaign with a gift. Nundawao/Great Hill is revered by the Seneca Nation as the birthplace of their people. Great Hill is also well known as the massive, forested hill that creates a scenic backdrop to the south end of Canandaigua Lake.
Over the years, the Finger Lakes Land Trust acquired 255 acres of forested hillsides at Great Hill to ensure the future of this majestic landmark. The preserve has been assembled through past donations of land by Thomas and Sandra Hansen, and Jim Fralick, as well as the purchase of 32 additional acres. Today, a 1.75-mile trail loop leads visitors through stands of oak and hickory, with seasonal views of the lake.
Recently, the Land Trust has successfully negotiated a contract to purchase 300 feet of shoreline as an addition to the Great Hill Nature Preserve. This 1.2-acre parcel consists of steeply sloping woodlands.
Completing the acquisition will ensure the future of shoreline wildlife habitat that is used by migratory waterfowl, Bald Eagles, and the occasional fisherman looking for a quiet spot on Canandaigua Lake.
