DESCRIPTION

Join staff and volunteers on the first Friday of every month from May through November for FLLT nature preserve stewardship activities and socializing. If you are looking for a good reason to take off a half-day on a Friday, this is it! Work sessions will be held from 2:00-4:30 pm, followed by a social hour from 4:30-5:30. Tools, work gloves, light refreshments, and snacks will be provided.

Help is needed to build short sections of wooden box steps, remove invasive shrubs and trees from along the trails, and clear large fallen trees. FLLT staff will supervise the carpentry work as well as run the chainsaw. Please note the following:

  • Some of the trails are uneven with short, rugged sections, and some of the work may require a 2+ mile hike.  The stair building project is close to the parking area but will require standing and working on a slope.
  • There are timber rattlesnakes on this preserve.
  • Please wear sturdy hiking boots or shoes.

DIRECTIONS

From Route 17/86 in Big Flats, take Exit 49. At the end of the exit ramp turn south onto Bridge Street. At the T intersection turn right onto Olcott Road South. At the next T intersection turn right onto Route 352. Turn left onto South Corning Road, cross the river, and turn left on Steege Hill Road. Go about 1.5 miles on Steege Hill Road and turn left into the parking lot, shortly after going around a steep “S” turn.
