DESCRIPTION

Discover the health benefits of nature with Peggy Hurley, DO—physician, avid hiker, gardener, and Master Naturalist. Peggy will guide us on a two-mile walk to explore the Lindsay-Parsons Biodiversity Preserve, home to a diverse variety of flora and fauna. This 554-acre preserve consists of forests, meadows, ponds, and wetlands, creating an exceptional place for bird watching. We will set out in search of plants and wildlife, and along the way, discuss how time spent outdoors positively affects overall health.

Optional: If you have them, bring binoculars, your favorite guidebook, and/or a smartphone with the Merlin Bird ID and iNaturalist apps downloaded and ready to use.

DIRECTIONS

The Lindsay-Parsons Biodiversity Preserve is located in West Danby, about 8 miles from Ithaca. Take Rt. 13 south from Ithaca, then take Rt. 34/96 south to West Danby. Most of the preserve is located on the east side of the highway, across from Sylvan Drive and the West Danby Fire Station. Ample parking is available about 1/2 mile south of Sylvan Drive, on the left side of the road. Entrance to the parking lot is at the top of a hill.

POLICIES

Except in the case of extreme weather, walks go rain or shine. Please check this web page for updates.

Please refrain from bringing dogs as they may impede the observation of wildlife.
