Description

Join Land Trust staff and volunteers on the first Friday of every month, from May through October, for nature preserve management activities and socializing. Help is needed with a variety of trail building, maintenance, clean-up, and more. Work sessions will be held from 2:00-4:30pm, followed by a social hour from 4:30-5:30. Tools, work gloves, light refreshments, and snacks will be provided!

Help is needed at the Houghton Land Preserve to clear brush and cut back limbs from the edge of a large meadow that is managed for grassland bird habitat. As grassland habitat in New York continues to disappear, it is important to help maintain and expand it. Meet in the main parking area on Spencer Hill Road. Please wear sturdy footwear and clothes that you do not mind getting dirty.

Directions

From Rte 352/Denison Parkway in downtown Corning, turn south onto Chemung Street. Take Chemung Street to Spencer Hill Road and drive about 2 miles to the preserve entrance on your right. From Corning Community College, take Marland Road and continue on Spencer Hill Road toward downtown Corning. Drive about 1/4 mile to the preserve entrance on your left.
