In Honor Of…
There are two very important people who are part of this adventure, in an indirect way. This ride is being done in their honor:
Betsy Darlington, founding member of the Land Trust and all-around great naturalist, has dedicated her past twenty years to a full-time unpaid position as Stewardship Director at the Land Trust. Betsy is taking her second retirement, and the Land Trust is raising funds to hire her replacement and launch new stewardship initiatives that will see the Land Trust’s success continue into the future.
This ride is also being done to honor the memory of Al Craig, Jr. Al was a good friend of Jim and Sara’s and the Land Trust and a fellow conservationist who passed away this spring. Al and his wife Sybil were the first landowners in the western Finger Lakes region to donate a conservation easement, and that action more than ten years ago inspired Sara and Jim and others to do the same. The Craig Family have been strong supporters of the Land Trust since that first conservation action. Al had a deep interest in the bike trip as he had published a medical article about a similar trip of a colleague of his who rode coast to coast in the 1960’s.
